Getting paid to work with the football club you’ve supported since being a wee boy is a bit of a dream come true, right?
Well, that’s exactly what happened in 2024, and is undoubtably my work highlight of the year. The project cemented everything I love about working with Knapton Wright: the challenge of a rapid turnaround (and our quickest delivered project to date); applying the lessons we’ve learned from previous web builds to make it lightning-quick; collaborating with our truly talented team (and even Tim, in-person rather than in a different time zone!); and giving something back to the local community by providing a better online presence for a historic brand that’s been through the wringer over the last few years. It’s one of those passion projects that you rarely get in your career and one I’m incredibly proud of. It’s still just the beginning of what could be; as they rise up the leagues again back to where they belong there’s bags of potential under the new leadership team.
On a personal note, 2024’s been a massive shift for my family and I, following Tim’s lead by relocating to Australia. Granted, we’re still thousands of miles away from him in Western Australia rather than Victoria and whilst it’s early days (only 10 weeks in) it’s certainly a different way of life. Huge thanks goes to Alex and Louise for being so supportive of our decision, and making it work out together. Likewise, the well-wishes from clients have been heartening.
Looking forward to 2025, I’m loath to make any kind of predictions. Alex has also banned us from talking about AI, so I’m obviously going to mention that. Not in terms of content generation or doing away with people’s jobs which everyone seems to banging on about but more practical and sensible applications of it. Specifically: to summarise complex information on the fly (hello, Notion AI); to analyse multimedia sources (g’day, NotebookLM), to automatically create transcripts and narratives from a video (whatcha, Loom). The more we become puppeteers of AI, the more efficient we - as humans - will become. Most importantly, it frees us up to do more of the fun stuff that AI can’t do; being creative!
In summary, AI says: “In essence, 2024 was a year of professional fulfillment, personal growth, and exciting new beginnings for the author.”
I say: 2024 was life-changing. But what doesn’t change is the importance of working with first-rate folk who care deeply about what they do, and want to do best by our clients.
