Drum roll please, introducing the freshest face at Knapton Wright - a big ‘hello and welcome’ to Lucy Lyle, our current work experience student!

Nurturing young creative talent like Lucy has long been a driver at the heart of Knapton Wright, it’s one of the reasons we founded the agency in the first place; to highlight that agency opportunities and the room to be creative can be found in rural communities as well as in any city. Coming to us with a focus on and passion for design, Lucy will be joining us one day a week for the next month. We’ve asked Lucy to tell us a little bit about herself and what she’s hoping this experience will bring…

I’m Lucy and I’m currently studying art and design at Bishop Burton College. I’ve always been passionate about creativity, whether it's drawing, experimenting with different design techniques, or training my dog (which requires a fair bit of creative problem-solving but is a key hobby of mine)! Originally from Lincolnshire, I live on a farm in Market Rasen, where I spend a lot of time outdoors. Growing up in such a natural environment has definitely influenced my artistic style and interests, and led me to introduce elements of nature into my designs.

Since my secondary school days at Caistor Yarborough Academy, where my favourite subjects were art, graphic design, and biology, I’ve been intrigued by how art interplays across subjects. Biology taught me to appreciate the intricate designs in nature, while graphic design opened my eyes to the possibility of turning creativity into a career. I was thrilled to achieve a grade 8 in art, which further solidified my desire to pursue a path where art plays a central role.

I chose to study art and design at Bishop Burton College because the course allows me to explore a range of creative fields, from traditional fine art to modern digital design.

One of the things I love most about design is how flexible it is. You can communicate so much through imagery and layout – from telling a story to evoking emotions or creating something completely unique. There’s a balance of freedom and structure in design that really appeals to me. Whether it's designing a logo or working on a larger project, the possibilities are endless, and I love the challenge of finding innovative ways to express ideas visually.

When I was offered the chance to do my work experience at Knapton Wright, a local marketing agency that focuses on putting the planet first, I was excited to see how my passion for design could be applied in a real-world environment. I’ve always been interested in the idea of working in creative industries, but I wasn’t sure what kind of roles might suit me best.

I hope that my time here gives me the opportunity to learn about marketing, branding, and how companies use design to connect with their target audiences. It’s already been fascinating to see how design isn’t just about making things look good - it’s about problem-solving, communication, and strategy.

One of the things I’m particularly eager to learn during my time here is how a design project moves from concept to final product. I’ve worked on my own art projects, but I’m curious to see the process behind professional design work, especially in the context of marketing. I’m also looking forward to gaining more confidence with digital tools like Adobe Creative Suite, as these skills will be essential for any future career in design.

Overall, I hope to come away from my time at Knapton Wright with a clearer idea of how design fits into the world of marketing and whether it’s a field I’d like to pursue further. My experience on day one has so far been eye-opening, and I can’t wait to see what else I’ll learn during my time here!
